The April 2024 instalment of the Lendületesek series on the website of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences introduces the newly established Lendület BÁZIS Research Group and its leader.
Supported in the “advanced” category, the project was launched on 1st of December 2023 and aims to develop a structured digital system for recording, preserving, and publishing—on multiple levels—the multidisciplinary datasets (archaeological, bioarchaeological, archaeometric, chronological, and site-network data) generated by the work of the previous Lendület Mobility Research Group.
The newly founded project, Bronze Age Social and Economic Strategies in the Middle Danube Region: Digital DataBASE (2500–1500 BC), seeks to continue and renew foundational research on the period of the builders of the Great Pyramids in Egypt and the Greek heroes buried in the shaft graves at Mycenae—focusing on their contemporaries in what is now Hungary. Beyond continuity, it introduces new methodological approaches to the study of these communities.
The state-of-the-art, cloud-based thematic databases will be developed as part of a new initiative at the HUN-REN Institute of Archaeology, provisionally titled the Digital Archaeological Atlas of Hungary.
