In 2023, the Institute of Archaeology of the HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities and the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague received bilateral international research mobility funding to explore connections between Western Hungary and Bohemia during the period between 2200 and 1500 BC. As part of the project introduced in our earlier post, led by Viktória Kiss and Daniel Hlásek, colleagues from the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences will give a lecture in Budapest in autumn 2024, while members of our Institute will present in Prague.

On Thursday, 10 October 2024 at 14:10, Eszter Melis and Nóra Szabó will give a lecture at the Prague Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences entitled “Social transformations between 2200 and 1400 BC in the Carpathian Basin – case studies from Western and Central Hungary.” Their presentation will offer, on the one hand, an overview of Early and Middle Bronze Age developments in the north-western Hungarian region, an area with several ties to Bohemia, and on the other hand, an analysis of the Middle–Late Bronze Age transition in central Hungary, based on the complex study of single-layer settlements with rich pottery assemblages.

In Budapest, two young Czech postdoctoral researchers, Daniel Hlásek and Michaela Kosová (Langová), will present their latest findings on Thursday, 17 October 2024 at 14:30 in the Institute’s Conference Room. Their talk, “Life and Death in the Early Bronze Age in Bohemia. Currently processed settlement Hosty and burial site Kolín,” will provide an exciting insight into the interpretation of a prominent settlement with connections to the Carpathian Basin, as well as into the comprehensive analysis of an Early Bronze Age cemetery.
All interested attendees are warmly welcome to join these English-language lectures!
