Jelena appearing on the TV show entitled Multiverzum on channel M5

The latest episode of the Multiverzum TV series, aired on 20 March 2026 on channel M5, presented new methods in archaeological research, ranging from a variety of scientific laboratory analyses to facial reconstructions created using a sculptural–anatomical method based on the results of archaeogenetic analyses. In addition to archaeological periods, the programme also covered dinosaur fossils studied by palaeontologists.

At the end of the programme (from 20:50), viewers can catch a glimpse of our case study on human remains unearthed during the excavation of an Early and Middle Bronze Age settlement at Balatonkeresztúr, including the work involved in creating the first facial reconstruction of a Bronze Age woman from Hungary. The programme also features excerpts from the film Jelena’s Faces.

The film’s main character is a woman aged between 35 and 45, buried in Grave 13 at Balatonkeresztúr. We named her Jelena based on the name day associated with the date of the excavation and her maternal haplogroup ‘J’. A small copper hair or cap ornament found next to her head suggests that this woman, who lived and was buried some four thousand years ago in the Early Bronze Age, may have held a higher social status within the community.
